Hochland has acquired a 25% stake in Greek Family Farm, which has been supplying the Germany-based cheese producer with feta cheese for the past three years.
Both Hochland and privately-owned Greek Family Farm have agreed not to reveal the financial details of the transaction that is expected to be completed by the end of this month, subject to clearance from competition authorities.
Greek Family Farm was founded in 2000 and has been supplying Hochland with original Greek feta cheese since 2015. The company is based in the town of Almyros in the Magnesia prefecture of the Thessaly region. It also makes feta and goat’s cheese destined for markets in Europe, the US and Australia, and also trades in milk, sheep and animal feed.
Allgäu, Bavaria-based Hochland said the remaining 75% of the shares will remain in the hands of Greek Family Farm, which is supplying feta for its Patros brand.
The transaction is the first major deal for Hochland since it acquired US cream cheese business Franklin Foods in 2017. As well as Germany and the US, the company also has plants in France, Spain, Russia, Romania and Poland.
