The Thai Public Health Ministry is to impose new laws on the energy drink category next year that will require the advertising of such brands to carry health warnings.

The regulations will mean that energy drink advertising will have to state a maximum safe consumption level.

Furthermore, the tone of the ads has been subject to a crackdown, with producers no longer being allowed to claim that their brands provide drinkers with more energy.

The ministry will issue the new regulations through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). “The ministry wants to promote safe consumption and caffeine is not healthy,” the minister said.

A draft warning reads: “Consumers should not drink more than two bottles a day. Children and pregnant women should not drink this beverage.”
