A French appeal court in Angers has ordered French biscuit manufacturer, Biscuits Saint-Georges, to pay €150,000 (US$154,800) in damages to Danone subsidiary Société Générale de Biscuits (SGB) and prohibited it from using the Princess brand name for its chocolate-filled biscuits.

The verdict followed legal action by SGB which claimed the Princess brand was too much of a resemblance to its own Prince (LU) chocolate-filled biscuits.


The appeal court upheld the complaint considering that Princess biscuits, which are only sold in eastern Europe, constituted a “counterfeit brand”.
