Icelandic seafood group SIF has said it is to acquire French luxury food maker Labeyrie for ISK29bn (US$421.7m).

SIF chairman Olafur Olafsson said the move was part of the company’s new focus on Europe, where it plans to expand its operations, reported Reuters. SIF said Icelandic bank Kaupthing is helping to finance the deal.


Labeyrie’s products include smoked salmon, smoked trout, foie gras and caviar.
