The proportion of food manufacturers hiring for digitalisation-related positions rose in April compared with the equivalent month last year, data suggests.

Some 63% of the companies included in GlobalData’s analysis were recruiting for at least one such position last month, up from 56.5% a year ago and an increase compared to the figure of 61.4% in March.

Looking at all job openings and the proportion of posts linked to digitalisation, some 9.3% of ads were related to the area in April, down from 10.2% in March.

However, this latest figure was an increase on April last year, when 4.9% of newly-advertised jobs were linked to digitalisation.

Digitalisation is one of the topics that GlobalData, our parent company and the source of the data for this article, has identified as being a disruptive force facing businesses in the coming years. Companies that excel and invest in these areas now are thought to be better prepared for the future business landscape and better equipped to survive unforeseen challenges.

GlobalData’s analysis of the data shows that food manufacturing companies are currently hiring for digitalisation jobs at a rate lower than the average for all companies within its job analytics database. The average among all companies stood at 11.7% in April.
