North America has extended its dominance in the hiring for roles centred on machine-learning among food industry companies.

In the three months ending May, the number of positions on offer in North America made up 55.1% of total machine learning jobs – up from 43% in the same quarter last year.

GlobalData tracks the number of new job postings from key companies in various sectors over time. Using textual analysis, these job advertisements are then classified thematically. The data and analytics group, Just Foods parent company, seeks to group key company information by topic to see which companies are best placed to weather the disruptions coming to their industries.

By tracking the themes across job advertisements, GlobalData says it can see which companies are leading the way on specific issues and which are dragging their heels – and importantly where the market is expanding and contracting.

Which countries are seeing the most growth for machine learning job ads in the food industry?

The fastest growing country was the US, which accounted for 50% in the three months ending May this year, up from 38% in the corresponding period a year earlier.

That was followed by Spain (up 3.5 percentage points), India (2.3), and Mexico (1.2).

Which cities and locations are the biggest hubs for machine learning workers in the food industry?

Some 11.4% of all food industry machine learning roles were advertised in Plano (United States) in the three months ending May.

That was followed by Barcelona (Spain) with 7.3%, Hyderabad (India) with 7.3%, and Chicago (United States) with 3.6%.
