2 Sisters Food invests to expand Five Star Fish business

21 Apr 2017

The UK’s 2 Sisters Food Group is investing GBP5m (US$6.3m) at its Five Star Fish subsidiary’s plant in the English port town of Grimsby.

2 Sisters is expanding and upgrading the secondary processing site at the plant. The company said the investment “comes on the back of new chilled business that was won at the turn of the year”.

The company did not respond to just-food’s request for details of the new business. However, Five Star’s acting site lead Mark Dalby said: “The upgrade has introduced new technology, an extra line and the widening of a second.”

Simon Wookey, the managing director of 2 Sisters’ meal solutions division, added: “The investment at Five Star will provide the platform for sustained growth and position the site so it can deliver the future needs of our customers.”

Wookey said 2 Sisters “is in the midst of a multi-million pound programme and the ongoing investments made in the last 12 months represents the largest the business has ever undertaken”.

Five Star Fish was bought by 2 Sisters in 2010 and began supplying retailers with chilled coated fish in 2012. The facility, which employs around 500, provides chilled and frozen coated fish for retail and foodservice outlets.
