2 Sisters Food Group started consultations with the union representing workers at its Llangefni poultry site this morning (23 February).

A spokesperson for the company told just-food the possible cuts were the result of a "strategic review" across the group's poultry operations.

"We have entered into a period of consultation with our colleagues at the Llangefni poultry processing site," the spokesperson said. "It is paramount that we simplify our business to ensure that we have the right products and processes within our factories to ensure we can sustain the high levels of quality and service our customers expect."

The company has proposed moving to a single shift operating pattern at Llangefni in order to reduce throughput at the facility.

"This means some roles will be at risk of redundancy," the spokesperson confirmed. 2 Sisters did not put a number on how many jobs are on the block but reports have suggested as many as 300 positions are under threat.

Over the last year, 2 Sisters has been working to cut costs from its manufacturing network. The company has shed jobs across its baking and prepared food operations, as well as selling off various facilities.
