A breakdown in talks that led to a number of Kraft Heinz products being temporarily delisted in the Netherlands by newly-merged supermarket operators Ahold and Delhaize, has been resolved, just-food was told today (20 September).

Ahold Delhaize said the spat began after it invited its top 100 international suppliers to talks over future “pricing and supply conditions”, following completion of its merger in July.

A spokesperson for Ahold Delhaize said: “There were a number of discussions held and some of those talks will still take some time. But the talks with Kraft Heinz were more difficult and we had to delist a limited number of products in the Netherlands for a short time. However, at the moment we have come to a deal and the situation has been resolved. The impact was marginal.”

A spokesman for Kraft Heinz told just-food: “It is not our policy to comment on our customer partnerships but I can confirm that right now it is business as usual and Ahold Delhaize shoppers will find all their Kraft Heinz favourite brands on shelf.”

Ahold Delhaize said last year that the merger of the European retail giants would create the fifth-largest retailer in the US – a market where Ahold operates under the Stop & Shop and Giant banners and Delhaize runs the Food Lion and Hannaford supermarket chains.
