UK potato supplier Albert Bartlett has acquired the plant in Norfolk where Heinz manufactured Aunt Bessie's products but which the US food giant closed earlier this year.

The company has snapped up the site in Westwick, which Heinz decided to shut after the end of its contract with Aunt Bessie's brand owner William Jackson Food Group to produce frozen potato lines.

Albert Bartlett confirmed the deal, struck for an undisclosed sum.

It is unclear when Albert Bartlett will re-open the site with the company saying no decision had been made. At that point, Albert Bartlett said, it would start recruiting staff. None of the employees who had worked at the factory will automatically switch to Albert Bartlett's employment.
