Aldi and Icelandic Seachill have reached an out-of-court settlement in a copyright battle over the seafood group’s The Saucy Fish Co. product.
In May this year, Icelandic Seachill won an interim court injunction in the UK against the discount retailer, over what it alleged was a copycat version of its product. Icelandic Seachill claimed Aldi’s new fish range, Saucy Salmon, had “infringed” its registered trademark and raised concerns the packaging and design features of Aldi’s products were “confusingly similar” to its brand.

In an email to just-food today, Simon Smith, managing director at The Saucy Fish Co., confirmed the settlement, but could not provide further details due to a confidentiality clause within the deal.
“We have reached a settlement with Aldi in advance of the scheduled court hearing, and this settlement order has been duly recorded and sealed by the court. Both parties have agreed that the terms of the settlement are confidential, but I can confirm we are very happy with the outcome,” he said.
Aldi did not respond to requests for comment when approached by just-food.
