
Australian pork processor BE Campbell has seen a change in its ownership structure, with private equity firm Allegro Funds acquiring a majority stake in the company.
The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

BE Campbell, a family-owned business based in Sydney, employs over 750 individuals and has a nationwide presence.
In a statement, the parties confirmed the Campbell Family will maintain a “significant stake” in the company.
The family will also continue to be involved in the management, overseeing the daily operations of the business.
BE Campbell markets its products under the Bruemar and BE Family brands.

By GlobalDataTed Campbell, the company’s chairman, said: “This business has grown steadily over the past 55 years. We are looking forward to the partnership with Allegro as we enter this next phase of growth.
“The Campbell family are remaining in the business as shareholders and executives.”
The investment from Allegro is set to “accelerate” BE Campbell’s growth strategy, according to the statement.
It includes plans for capital upgrades for the group’s processing capabilities, investment in new product formats and developing a “strengthened” commercial platform to better cater to its Australian customer base.

The company’s offerings range from whole pigs and primary cuts to customised value-added retail products.
It distributes its products through major channels including supermarkets, foodservice providers, butchers, and other distributors.
Additionally, the company exports its products to various markets across the Asia-Pacific region.
BE Campbell operates two facilities in western Sydney. The Wetherill Park location is the company’s head office and pork deboning and processing plant, with a weekly processing capacity of 15,000 pigs.
The Arndell Park site focuses on further processing and value addition, handling approximately 400t per week.
