WhiteWave Foods-owned Alpro has launched a coconut-based alternative to cooking cream in the UK.

Coconut Cuisine is the latest addition to Alpro's alternatives to cream. Its range includes Alpro Soya Single and Alpro Rice Cuisine.

"This is another example of our ambition to stretch the plant-based category by introducing a wider mix of ingredients and extending our presence into new usage occasions. Alpro Coconut Cuisine offers our consumers a fresh new healthy way to enjoy a creamy accompaniment to desserts and puddings and makes a delicious ingredient for cooking," said Vicky Upton, marketing controller at Alpro UK.

Coconut Cuisine has less than 100 calories per 100ml and 30% less fat than coconut milk. It is available at Tesco in a 250ml carton at an MRSP of GBP1.49 (US$2.33).
