Indian dairy giant Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), better known as Amul, has entered into an agreement with technology specialists Infibeam Inc to develop e-commerce and mobile platforms for the dairy’s products.
Amul, India’s largest dairy brand, is set to roll out its e-commerce platform over the coming months, the company revealed.
“All Amul products including fresh milk, curd, butter, cheese etc. will be sold through our exclusive e-commerce platform and delivered to our customers’ door steps,” said RS Sodhi, managing director, GCMMF.
The company will initially launch its online offering in Ahmedabad and then roll the model out on a city by city basis.
Amul products are currently available online via some third party e-tailers but this development will be the first time Amul brands will be available for delivery via an exclusive e-commerce portal.
GCMMF has been aggressively growing its business and the group is investing in expanding its production capabilities over the next five years to support its target of “rapid” growth. GCMMF has set a target to reach revenues of INR300bn (US$4.5bn) by fiscal 2017-18. The company said that expansion is being achieved through higher milk procurement and the addition of new markets in India to its sales network.
