Spanish seafood major Angulas Aguinaga has snapped up its local peer, pickled seafood manufacturer Aperitivos Iñaki.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The company said the move expands its portfolio and boosts its “commitment to innovation” as it looks to offer consumers a wider range of modern fish products.

Aperitivos Iñaki will continue to be managed “by the same founding and management team as until now,” a statement from Angulas said.

It added “both companies share values ​​such as quality and authenticity, making them ideal partners for generating added value in the sector”.

The deal is part of Angulas Aguinaga’s broader growth strategy. The company also purchased of the Italian company Deligusti in 2021. Its goal is to reinforce its position “in key markets at a national and international level”.

Aperitivos Iñaki, headquartered in Valdemoro, Spain, produces pickled seafood such as anchovies, mussels, octopus and olives. It also processes smoked fish.

Commenting on the company, Angulas said Aperitivos Iñaki had “a consolidated track record in the production of anchovies and Spanish gildas, is recognized for its artisanal approach and the use of selected ingredients.”

It added that the group’s portfolio is “all focused on culinary excellence and Spanish gastronomic tradition. This commitment to quality and authenticity perfectly complements Angulas Aguinaga’s current production, strengthening its position in the aperitif segment both in Spain and in other markets.”

Angulas Aguinaga is a seafood major headquartered in Irura, Spain. It’s portfolio includes a range of fresh and canned seafood and ready-to-eat products. It owns brands such as Krissia, La Gula del Norte, Aguinamar and Angulas Aguinaga Profesional.

In September last year, the company announced its entry into plant-based seafood with a collaborative launch of a konjac-based calamari with start-up Vrave.
