Apetit has announced CFO Sami Saarnio is to leave the Finland-based food group of his own accord, with group controller Tero Heikkinen temporarily stepping into the role.

Heikkinen will assume the position on 27 November, while the search for a new CFO will start immediately, the company said in a statement to the Helsinki stock exchange yesterday (14 November).

Chief executive Juha Vanhainen said: “I wish to thank Sami for his work on developing Apetit’s financial management. I wish him success in his upcoming challenges.”

Saarnio joined Apetit in October last year from Finnish electrical-to-ventilation business Onninen.

Apetit’s product range includes frozen vegetables, frozen ready meals and salads. In June, the company announced it planned to sell its seafood business operations in Finland, Sweden and Norway to Insula AS, a Norwegian firm specialising in the processing of fish and shellfish.

The news of the CFO’s departure comes on the back of nine-month earnings published early in November that showed losses widened to EUR3m (US$3.6m) from EUR1.2m a year earlier. Sales were also down, falling 4% to EUR276m.
