Dutch retail giant Ahold has said there are still two parties interested in acquiring its Argentine supermarket chain Disco.

The company confirmed last week that exclusive negotiations with joint prospective buyers, investor Fransisco de Narvaez and French retailer Casino Guichard Perrachon, regarding the sale of Disco had ended without success.

Ahold said at the time that the talks had ended because the parties could not reach a final agreement.

“There are two parties that are interested so there is still competition,” Theo de Raad, Ahold’s board member responsible for South America, was quoted by Dow Jones International News as saying. De Raad did not reveal the identification of either party.

Ahold wants to sell Disco, which operated 237 stores at the end of June 2003, as part of its strategic plan to restructure its portfolio, to divest underperforming assets, and to concentrate on its mature and most stable markets.
