Aryzta has announced plans to only use cage-free eggs in products sold under a second US brand, La Brea Bakery.

La Brea Bakery lines will be “transitioning to the use of cage-free eggs” this year, Aryzta said in a statement. “While the majority of La Brea Bakery breads and other foods do not include eggs, those that do, will use cage-free eggs as the ingredient in recipes.”

The move follows the Swiss group’s announcement last week that the company would only use cage-free eggs in the production of its Otis Spunkmeyer branded retail and foodservice products by the end of 2023.

Aryzta said the move was part of its commitment to “no funky stuff” in its food, which includes it using “honest ingredients”.

In February Aryzta pledged its La Brea Bakery brand would be non-GMO verified, also by the end of the year.

Last month, Aryzta posted a fall in half-year sales from the North America market but assured it could improve sales through investment in its branded packaged range, including its Otis Spunkmeyer and La Brea Bakery brands.
