The CEO of PepsiCo’s Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) unit, Saad Abdul-Latif, has died suddenly.

In a filing, the group’s chairman and CEO, Indra Nooyi, confirmed the “sudden passing” of Abdul-Latif who had been AMEA boss since 2009, having joined the company in 1982. No further details were given of his death.

Abdul-Latif, who was 59, was part of the company’s senior leadership team.

“He was a deep personal friend to so many PepsiCo family members in every corner of the globe,” said Nooyi. “The thoughts and prayers of PepsiCo associates are with Saad and his family during this difficult time.”

The company’s chief human resources officer for the AMEA region, Umran Beba, will temporarily head up the unit until a permanent replacement is found, the company said.
