“Our feeling is that chicken and eggs, properly cooked, doesn’t seem to present a threat of infection,” Robert Dietz, spokesman for the UN agency in Hanoi, was quoted by Reuters as saying.
The comments followed a claim that a Vietnamese boy had died of bird flu after eating chicken that had been killed by the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus.
Dietz said the WHO had not confirmed that the boy had died from bird flu.
WHO spokesman John Rainford said chicken cooked to an internal temperature of 75 degrees Celsius was safe to eat.
