A batch of Lion’s Pura milk on sale in Hong Kong has been recalled after it contained bacteria above legal limits.

Hong Kong’s The Centre for Food Safety said tests carried out under its regular testing programme showed the Pura Slim milk had a bacteria count of over 30 million per millilitre. Local laws say milk must contain no more than 30,000 bacteria per ml.

The watchdog said on Thursday (23 May) it had informed the local importer of the brand, Nowaday International Development, which had issued a recall.

“The total bacterial count exceeding the legal limit indicates unsatisfactory hygienic conditions, but does not mean it would lead to food poisoning. Despite that, we think that it will be prudent for consumers who have bought the affected product to stop drinking it. The trade should also stop selling the affected product,” a spokesperson for the CFS said.
