Chobani has added to its portfolio in Australia with the launch of a range of yoghurt sold in pouches.

The US-based Greek yoghurt producer said Australia is the first of its three markets in which it would offer products in pouch packaging.

The company said it wanted to give consumers in Australia “a convenient way” of consuming the products.

“Feedback from our customers was that they would love to enjoy Chobani while they’re out and about,” Peter Meek, MD of Chobani’s Australian arm, said.

Chobani also emphasised it had fitness fans in its sights with the new line. “It’s the ideal post-workout snack for people who are constantly on the go,” Emily Houlahan, dietician and communications manager for Chobani Australia, added.

The pouches are on sale at Woolworths Ltd and Coles for a recommended price of A$1.99 (US$1.39). The company has added two flavours to its standard range in Australia – 2% fat apricot and 0% fat blackberry – which also have an RRP of A$1.99.

Chobani’s owner, Agro Farma, first entered the Australian market in 2011 when it acquired local dairy firm Bead Foods. It has since increased production at the plant in Victoria it attained through the deal.
