Australian supermarket group Coles has announced the appointment of Tony Buffin to the position of chief financial officer, effective from July.

Buffin comes to Coles from Groupe Aeroplan, where he most recently served as EVP and managing director. He has previously held a number of other senior leadership positions, including CFO of Groupe Aeroplan.

Commenting on the appointment, Coles MD Ian McLeod said Coles expected to benefit from Buffin’s “extensive retail, finance and business development experience in the UK and Europe”.

“I am confident he will make an outstanding contribution as part of the new management team towards the turnaround of Coles,” he added.

Buffin replaces Terry Bowen, who has taken on the role of finance chief at Coles’ parent company Wesfarmers.
