Heinz Australia has launched an investigation into how a can of branded spaghetti came to contain “black sludge”.
An Australian consumer lodged a complaint after opening a can of Heinz spaghetti to find what has been described as a motor oil-like substance.
“We expect that this problem may have been caused by damage to the can during distribution after leaving our factory – where air may have entered the can and caused the contents to go off,” a spokesperson for Heinz’s Australian business told just-food today (31 October).
“We will however be conducting a thorough investigation as per normal quality assurance procedures,” the spokesperson added.
The company indicated that this is an isolated incident concerning only one consumer.
