McCain Foods has been forced to recall thousands of pizzas in Australia amid fears the products could contain metal.

The company said today (30 June) that almost 2,500 cartons of 500g McCain Family Pizza Cheese & Bacon pizza supplied to retailers including Woolworths Ltd, Coles and Franklins would have to be recalled. Each carton contains eight pizzas.

Product batches with best-before codes of March 2012 B 090 and March 2012 C 090 are being recalled.

Nicki Anderson, marketing director for McCain’s subsidiary in Australia and New Zealand, said an investigation was underway to find out the source of the contamination.

“Once it was realised these particular cartons had been shipped, the decision was made to recall the product,” Anderson said.
