Woolworths, Australia’s largest grocer, has seen half-year revenue rise over 8% thanks to a “strong” second quarter, its chief executive said today (30 January).

Sales across Woolworths’ food outlets were up after a “pleasing” Christmas, the company said.
Turnover rose 8.6% to just under A$24bn (US$21.3bn) during the six months to 30 December.
Sales from the company’s New Zealand supermarkets rose 3% to A$1.1bn.
Chief executive Michael Luscombe forecast full-year sales to rise by 8-10%.
