Parmalat has refused to be drawn on reports it is in talks to buy Australian dairy Harvey Fresh.

Reports in Australia have said Parmalat, majority-owned by French dairy giant Lactalis, is in discussions with Harvey Fresh, a family-owned business based in Western Australia.

The link to Harvey Fresh comes as three bidders are battling it out for Australian dairy processor Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory.

Parmalat has built a sizeable business in Australia, with the market accounting for around 17% of its sales.

When contacted by just-food today (18 November) to confirm Parmalat is in talks with Harvey Fresh, the group said: “The company does not comment on market rumours.”

Set up in 1986, Harvey Fresh manufactures a range of dairy products from its site 130km south of Perth. It also produces fruit juice and wine.
