Acting Cattle Council of Australia President, John Wyld, applauded the Federal Government’s decision to provide free vaccines to primary producers.”Following the announcement of a $10.6 million funding package for Q-Fever earlier this year, Cattle Council has been lobbying for free vaccinations for primary producers to be included as part

“We have been working closely with the Government, especially Queensland Senator, Ron Boswell, to ensure the interests of cattle producers were included. We certainly appreciate the Senator’s efforts on this important issue.

“Q-Fever is an acute and debilitating bacterial infection affecting workers in direct contact with animals. It causes a flu-like illness with fever headaches, muscle aches and pains, pneumonia and possibly liver and heart complications.

“While it is difficult to put an exact cost on the illness, the effect of losing productive workers for the period of the illness as well as compensation costs have a significant impact on rural business. “Cattle Council urges all producers to take up this opportunity by making enquiries with their local GP.”
