The closure, which is due to low prices and poor Australian cane crops, will leave just 25 mills remaining in the so-called sugar state of Queensland, reported Reuters.

Another mill, Pleystowe near Mackay, is not crushing this season because of the poor level of cane production in Australia, caused by a severe drought.

The Moreton mill, established in 1897, normally processes around 500,000 tonnes of sugar cane a year.
