The lockout was prompted over a labour dispute with meat workers, and there were threats that the three-day standoff could escalate to three-months.

The meat workers have endorsed in-principle a new enterprise agreement however, although the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union said that 18 maintenance workers will continue to negotiate their enterprise agreement while back on the job.

Cargill revealed that while killing began this morning, the processing plant would not be fully operational until Monday.
