DairyWA says its inaugural AGM has been cancelled because of government inaction; Agriculture Minister Kim Chance has still not signed off on the assets of the Dairy Industry Authority.

The previous government had promised dairy farmers in West Australia that the value of the regulatory body would form part of a A$37m (US$17.95m) state rescue package, but according to the West Australian newspaper, Chance says he is still waiting for legal advice “despite receiving preliminary advice from the Crown Solicitor’s Office over two weeks ago that the State Government could give the assets, valued at about A$6.2m, to DairyWA without risk of contingent liability”.

Danny Harris, director of DairyWA, said that the meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, had to be cancelled because it could not go ahead without shareholders, and the organisation could not distribute shares until Chance released the money.
