Administrators and the federal government have been asked to speed up the sale of two Australian regional airlines, as the delay is seriously affecting the domestic seafood industry.
Russ Neal, CEO of the Australian Seafood Industry Council, explained that without an available air operator, many regional seafood operators are unable to access export markets.
Neal told ABC News that he does not mind who takes over Hazeltons or Kendall Airlines, just that full and comprehensive airfreight links are maintained: “The seafood industry is diversified right across Australia from the capital cities through to many of the regions and the growth of Aquaculture in particular.
“If for any reason this bid this week fails to come to fruition there has to be a quick move by the administrators for the sake of the Australian economy.”
Australiawide has not been given until tomorrow to confirm whether it will buyout Hazeltons and Kendall Airlines, or withdraw its bid.
