Australian processors have secured a contract for 1,170 tonnes of Super A Grade skim milk powder from the Agriculture and Livestock Industry Corporation of Japan (ALIC). In revealing the news, the Australian Dairy Corporation added that the Australian exporters would be supplying 35% of Japan’s total requirement.

Sandy Murdoch, managing director of the ADC, commented: “We are seeing a strong demand for skim milk powder from countries free from foot-and-mouth disease, like Australia. The total value of all Australian dairy exports is currently running at more than A$2.5bn per annum.”
“Japan is one of the world’s largest importers of skim milk powder, averaging over 70,000 tonnes per annum over the past five years,” he added.
The entire tender from Japan was valued at around A$6m.
