AUSTRALIA: Extra boost for struggling diary farmers in NSW and Queensland
The Australian government has pledged an extra A$100m boost for the nation’s dairy farmers, struggling under the effects of industry deregulation last summer. Since deregulation, milk prices in New South Wales and Queensland have plummeted and many farmers have found themselves forced out of business. The government had already outlined an adjustment scheme costing A$1.8bn for those worse affected, but this month’s news of an extra boost suggests that the original aid estimates were not enough.
