Australian bakery products company George Weston is to close its Camperdown factory in Sydney leading to the loss of around 200 jobs.

The Camperdown facility produces chocolate biscuits, including the Wagon Wheels and Quatro brands.
George Weston, a wholly owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods, said that its biscuit and cake business was not currently viable.
“Our costs are too high and we need to reduce them,” the chief executive of George Weston’s biscuit and cake division, Harry Petropoulos, was quoted by the Australian Associated Press as saying.
“Also our Camperdown site in Sydney is in an increasingly residential area which makes redevelopment of the factory difficult.

George Weston said its biscuit-making operations could be transferred to Abbotsford in Melbourne or sold off.
