AUSTRALIA: Industry association calls for egg price hike
With egg shortages expected to last until the end of this year, the Australian Egg Industry Association is petitioning for a price increase in a carton of eggs by about A$0.5. Jeff Ironside, president of the association, argues that the damaging combination of higher feed prices, flooding, drought, Newcastle disease and low payments to farmers has meant that egg stock levels have now fallen to below monthly requirements for the first time since 1994.
