Shipments of Australian red meat to Japan increased 31% in the year to 30 June, according to meat marketing group Meat & Livestock Australia.
The value of Australian meat exports to Japan rose to A$2.05bn (US$1.47bn), while beef exports rose 25% to $1.75bn and lamb exports rose 27% to $50m, reported Reuters.
The value of offal exports more than doubled to $150m, while exports of processed beef rose 138% to $56m.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Japan was Australia’s most valuable export destination for red meat during fiscal 2004.
