Sales of beef produced in Tasmania have risen 25% since the introduction of a label that states the origin of the meat in March.
The butchers and independent retailers who are registered the sell the Tasmanian-label beef reported the rise, explaining that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the quality and reliability of beef from the state.
Hobart-based Jacobson’s Meats retailer Denis Palmer told the Sunday Tasmanian: “This is the best beef you can get and people are becoming far more aware of what they’re putting in their mouths.”
Meanwhile, spokespeople from the nation’s largest grocers, Coles Myer and Woolworths, admitted that while they stocked Tasmanian beef where possible, the meat is sometimes difficult to get hold of and more expensive than that produced in other states.
