The planners of Australia’s first camel dairy have said they will have to send samples to the UK for testing.

Camels Australia, which plans to open the camel dairy south of Alice Springs once tests have been carried out, says tests must be done because camels are not classified as livestock by some government departments. The milk therefore cannot be sold for human consumption.
“We need to do some scientific research on the milk itself and the properties of milk and things like that… then they have to let us know as to the pasteurisation set-up for camel’s milk and then we can start pasteurising it and selling it,” the company told ABC News.
The company aims to market the milk towards the health food industry because it says that camel milk is similar to goat’s milk.
