The US has lost an appeal at the World Trade Organisation against a decision by its disputes settlement body, which found that Washington has broken WTO rules in the way that it had erected temporary safeguard duties against imports of fresh and frozen lamb from New Zealand and Australia.

Notably, the WTO had ruled that the USA had failed to “demonstrate the required causal link between increased imports and threat of serious injury”
to the American lamb industry and that investigators had failed to establish to what extent “other factors” were responsible to any economic difficulties suffered by the sector.
