AUSTRALIA: Queensland dairy farmers at risk from low prices, warns QDO
According to Pat Rowley, the president of the Queensland Dairyfarmers' Organisation (QDO), losses can be expected to reach A$20m following price cuts. His words were in response to an announcement made yesterday (5 October), by Dairy Farmers Ltd, that its price per litre of milk would drop to A$0.351 by the end of the years. Farmers in Queensland have fallen nearly 40% since the deregulation of the sector on 1 July this year, and the QDO believes that half of the dairy industry in the state is now at risk.
