His work reveals strong evidence that Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), a type
of fat found naturally in dairy foods such as milk, cheese and yogurt, is a
potent anticarcinogen that assists in preventing cancer.
The evidence supporting the potential benefits of CLA and other biologically
active components in dairy foods, is gaining increasing attention from international
nutrition researchers, with a majorhuman studiesy now under way in Europe.the
United Kingdom.
As well as CLA, researchers are examining the contribution to cancer prevention
that may be offered by vaccenic acid, another dairy fat.

By GlobalDataAustralian Dairy Corporation dietitian, Catherine Godden, says the emerging
science looks promising for a new way of looking at what the dairy nutrition
package offers.
“It’s early days yet, but the CLA research adds another string to dairy’s bow,”
as the most essential, natural food,” she said.
“We don’t know at this stage what amounts of CLA should be consumed for the
protective effect, but we all know that Australians should consume at least
three serves of dairy food every day to continue to receive the minimum levels
of to provide essential nutrients such asincluding calcium, vitamin B12, zinc
and protein.”
The Advances in Dairy Nutrition seminar series is presented jointly by the
ADC and the Dairy Research and Development Corporation. In addition to Dr Ip,
the seminars will feature Dr Peter Parodi of the DRDC’s Human Nutrition Program
– a pioneer of CLA research in Australia – and Dr Robert Gibson, director of
the Child Nutrition Research Centre in Adelaide.
