Two major sporting organisations in Western Australia (WA) are warning young people
that it may not be safe to drink one of the many energy drinks currently on the
market.

The WA Surf Life Saving Association and WA Swimming Association
are concerned that many of the drinks contain high levels of caffeine, and they
argue that young people could swiftly become addicted to the drinks.

There is also the possibility that young athletes could get caught out for
cheating in competitions if they have consumed a high-energy drink. Caffeine
is listed as a stimulant on the register compiled by the Australian Sports
Drug Agency
. It is not a banned substance in the Olympics, however.
