A ruling made yesterday (12 December) by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has scored a victory for Australian beef producers. Australians petitioned after they believed they were discriminated against in the retail beef system in South Korea.

According to Australian trade minister Mark Vaille, the WTO has dismissed an appeal from South Korea and opened up access for Australian meat to its third largest beef market from January 2001.


This latest ruling follows hard on the WTO decision of 7 December to make the US relax import tariffs on Australian lamb. The US has expressed its intention to appeal the decision however.
