AUSTRIA: Edeka denies report of withdrawal from Austria
German food retailer Edeka, owner of Austrian supermarket chain Adeg, has denied a report that it planned to withdraw from Austria, according to the APA news agency, which quoted spokesperson Marliese Kalthoff.

Kalthoff said Edeka was planning to discontinue its activities in the Czech Republic due to the tough competition there which was an obstacle to further growth. Edeka would continue its activities in Austria and Denmark as before, Kalthoff added.
