Barilla, the Italy-based food group, is to enter the organic food sector in France.

The company is to launch an organic pasta line into the French market to meet growing demand for organic products in the country. “Bio is increasingly popular,” Barilla said.

It is rolling out three products – spaghetti, coquillettes and penne rigate.

According to Agence Bio, a French government agency that promotes organic agriculture in the country, sales of organic products rose 10% in France in 2015 to EUR5.5bn (US$6.26bn).

France is Barilla’s largest market in Europe outside of Italy. In 2014, the privately-owned business generated sales of EUR530m in France. Barilla’s portfolio of products on sale in France include pasta, sauces and bakery lines. The company also sells free-from pasta in the country. 

Its recent investments in France include adding to its bakery production, a move it announced in the summer of 2014 and officially opened last year.
