Hayley Gait-Golding, the founder of the Bear brand and one of the owners of Urban Fresh Foods, said: "Bear was developed to help make it easier for parents to feed their kids healthy snacks. Claws are the next step in our vision. By adding vegetable ingredients we are introducing children to a wider variety of flavours as well as making our snacks the lowest in natural sugar across the children’s fruit snacking market."

Sainsbury's will stock the snacks, targeted at children aged four to nine, from 5 October. More retailers are "coming soon", the company said. The recommended retail price for a multi-pack of five is GBP2.49 (US$3.78).

Last month, Urban Fresh Foods said it was looking at ways to expand internationally as part of its latest strategy to grow the business.

Giles Brook, a partner in Urban Fresh Foods, told just-food the company is in "exploratory" talks with a number of parties to weigh up ways to further build its presence outside the UK.
