Belgian food retailer Delhaize has appointed Carrefour’s executive director for emerging markets as its CFO.
Pierre Bouchut will take up the role of CFO, responsible for finance, strategy and M&A, on 19 March. He succeeds Stefan Descheemaeker, who was appointed CEO of Delhaize Europe at the beginning of the year, the retailer said today (8 March).

Bouchut will join Delhaize from Carrefour where he was CFO since joining the firm in 2009. Between 1990 and 2005 he was with Group Casino, where he held the positions of CFO, managing director and CEO responsible for the retailer’s French and international operations.

“In addition to his strong financial background and expertise, Pierre Bouchut has built a very rich experience spanning the almost full spectrum of the food retail business, from operational to general management, in a highly international environment.”
In addition, Delhaize announced the appointment of Mats Jansson as chairman. Currently an independent member of Danske Bank, he will succeed Georges Jacobs on his retirement on 24 May.
