The company, which owns over 200 stores in Belgium and France, posted an 11.8% jump in operating profit to EUR371.5m (US$500m) for the year to 31 March. Turnover rose 9.1% to EUR5.2bn.

Sales at the Colruyt branded stores rose almost 8% thanks, the company said, to its policy of focusing on low prices.

Sales from stores under the Okay banner saw sales jump 27% with sales from company-operated outlets in France up over 6%. Colruyt warned, however, that growing price competition had put margins under pressure in France.
