Frozen meals maker Bellisio Foods is reportedly exploring a sale of the business.

According to a report carried by Reuters citing people familiar with the matter, Bellisio's US private equity owner Centre Partners Management, has recently approached investment banks to help it conduct an auction for the planned sale.

The deal is thought to be worth around US$800m.

Bellisio was acquired from Jeno Paulucci in 2011 for an undisclosed amount. It makes fresh and frozen food products for sale in the US, Canada and internationally. Brands include Boston Market, Michelina's and Chili's.

Some of the people familiar with the matter said Bellisio may attract suitors that include Nomad Foods which acquired Iglo Foods in April. A spokesperson for Nomad declined to comment when approached by just-food.

Centre Partners Management and Bellisio Foods did not respond to request for comment.
